In 2004, I walked into my first CAFS classroom with a syllabus, a purple textbook and very little idea of what I was doing. 22 years later, after teaching thousands of students and spending
16 years in HSC marking, I can see exactly what I'd do differently.
In Episode #192 of The PDHPE and CAFS Podcast, I'm sharing four lessons that have transformed the way I think about teaching Community and Family Studies. From building stronger connections between Year 11 and Year 12 to explicitly teaching HSC writing skills, creating authentic learning experiences and making the Glossary of Key Words a priority, these are the things I wish I'd known when I started.
Whether you're teaching your first CAFS class or you've been doing this for years, I hope this episode encourages you to reflect, refine and make your teaching even more purposeful.
